Some things:

  • I have stayed up too late the past two nights with no real purpose, but I have ended up seeing some great and interesting stand-up uncensored on Comedy Central. On Friday, The Comedians of Comedy Live from The Troubadour came on, which featured such greats as Patton Oswalt, Zach Galifianakis, Eugene Mirman, Dana Gould, and others. I had seen the tour show before, but this was really a nice treat since I had not seen the show in its entirety before. Also, I don't know if I accidentally zoned out for 15 minutes, or if they just cut it out for editing (more likely) but David Cross and H. John Benjamin were not featured. I was pretty bummed and confused, but I suppose I'll just have to rent or buy the DVD to get the full experience. I also don't really think that Sarah Silverman or Brian Posehn are particularly very funny or very good at stand up comedy. On Saturday, I watched a special with a fella named Rodney Carrington, who is a good-ol' boy, clad in Justin attire, who jokes and sings country songs about titties and beer. At first, I was extremely put off by this guy, as he was often opinionated and full of unfounded bigotry. He struck me as another Ron White or Larry the Cable Guy, but as the show progressed, I noticed that he had a certain swagger and intelligence that made him quite appealing. Since the show was uncensored, there were plenty of profanities and dick jokes and, at one point, ladies in the audience flashing their boobies. As much as I found wrong with old Rodney (his misogynistic and homophobic tirades, his goofy arrogance, his cowboy hat), I found that he really did a nice job of setting jokes up and had a great way of crafting callbacks and clever puns. He was also very self aware, and really seemed to know how to best use his persona to appeal to the crowd. In the end, he appealed to me much more than Fratboy Dane Cook or Racist Jeff Dunham. I think my parents would probably love this guy.

  • Instead of watching the Superbowl (which I really could give two shits about), I stumbled across Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl IV, which is as sickeningly adorable as you might imagine. In fact, its just a bunch of puppies playing in a large pen made to look like a football field. And there is commentary. Can you believe it? Sure you can.

  • I really liked Cloverfield, so if you didn't, I am sorry and you can shove your opinions up your butt. I think the movie did everything it set out to do, and it did it pretty well. If you want to see a monster movie that captures a sense of terror and confusion, then go check it out. If you want to go see a science fiction movie to blow your mind and change the way you think about society, then you should probably go see something else.

  • LOST is back! I enjoyed the season premiere, but man, they sure do like to move the story pretty slowly. I was expecting a lot more, and was somewhat disappointed by the lack of advancement in the saga. I don't even really want answers, I just want movement. I think we'll see a little more of that next week. One can hope, I suppose.

  • I had a nice brunch with Joe S. today-- it was great, that Joe is a smart dude. I also hung out with a certain Ryloc earlier in the week, and we had some beers and mediocre food. Both of these Man-dates were at Milltown. It was good to have hangout times with friends as to not feel the pangs of loneliness this week, as Callie was in Vail, Colorado.

  • And finally, I am scootin' again, as the Vino is back in action. I couldn't be happier.

That's all you get for now, friends, stay tuned for more updates soonish. In the meantime, I have hopped on the early train to Tumblr-ville, and you can check out my mini-blog Pocket if you want. It's less musing and more media / internet related stuff. Ciao.
